Crafted by master ceramists, these Yunomi teacups come in different colours and finishes, paying homage to some of Japan's most famous ceramic styles. The small colour variations compared to the picture are due to the non-controllable manual steps in the glazing and firing process and make each item unique. They are made in the ceramic factories of Gifu, the ‘ceramic valley’ in the heart of Japan, which boasts a tradition dating back to the 13th century, handed down from father to son. Mino yaki is the name given to Gifu porcelain and ceramics, which account for 50% of Japanese production.
Simplicity and elegance are the hallmarks of traditional Japanese pottery, which reached its zenith around 400 years ago, thanks to the popularity gained by the tea ceremony.
