What is undoubtedly one of the most famous ballets of all time is the retelling of the fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by Ernst Theodor Hoffmann. On the night of Christmas Eve, little Marie receives a splendid wooden nutcracker with human features as a gift. But what appears to be a simple toy is actually an animated magical object, a courageous hero who will defend Marie from the evil Mouse King and lead her to Princess Pirlipat in the Doll Kingdom.
